The Adirondack, Battenkill Challenge 15K Relay is coming up for its third running on November 3rd this Fall. Two years ago, the Batten Kill Runners Club (then about 125 members) challenged the Adirondack Runners (approximately 1200 members) to a club 15K relay race. The first race was in Arlington on the River Road course, and each team member ran a 5K out and back. Surprisingly, we won and took the big two handled trophy and had it engraved with BKVR 2000. Last year we had a great turn out and ran in Glens Falls on an equally nice course in a park with the Adirondack Runners as hosts. To our good fortune, the home court advantage didn’t work for them. We won again. Off to the engravers for BKVR 2001. Now we’re home again, looking for win number three.
This is a key element of what the club is all about. We need you running on a team to pull the win again. The club score will be the total time of the club’s first team in each of the following divisions. Like cross country meets, the low club score wins. Scoring officials will be David Harrington and Jim Sullivan, our respective club presidents. They’ll add team times, make the big decisions, change the rules if necessary, and declare the winner.
We’re indoors at the West Arlington Grange for registration, refreshments, and awards and we plan to serve pancakes with maple syrup, coffee, and hot cocoa immediately following the race.
This is a no tees, no fees race. Only club members may participate. However, we can recruit new, fast members up until November 2nd so if you have a friend with fast feet we’d love to have him or her join the club. Sorry, no race day new members allowed. Don’t worry about who will be on your team. Call in, give us your 5K time, and we’ll find you teammates who run your pace.
