Running of the Turkeys

PRESS RELEASE

Thanksgiving morning will be the 16th anniversary of the Running of the Turkeys, a 5K road race, 5K walk, and 1K Kids Fun Run, organized each year by the Battenkill Valley Runners Club. Come out and enjoy this traditional Thanksgiving morning run in beautiful Arlington, Vermont. You will enjoy the course, the friendly competition, the warm sunny weather, and, of course, you will be able to eat as much as you want the rest of the day without feeling guilty! And yes, it is especially important that we once again hear Alice's Restaurant Massacre this year... Voted the most scenic and popular Thanksgiving Day road race in southwestern Vermont, the Running of the Turkeys begins and ends at Fisher Elementary School, on the East Arlington Road. Online registration is available at www.active.com and the entry form is available at www.bkvr.org. Both online and postmarked mailed discounted entries end on November 18th. The Kids' Fun Run is $1 with awards for all finishers. Your last chance for packet pick up and registration at the $13.00 early bird entry rate or a $35 family package for four members of the same family will be on Wednesday, November 23rd from 5-8 PM at the Arlington Community House on route 7A. Race day registration is $20.00 at Fisher Elementary, beginning at 7:45AM and ending at 8:30AM. The 5K race is scheduled to begin at 9:00AM in front of the school. Awards will be in 5 year age groups and there will be two raffles. Raffle #1: Bring 2 dozen of your favorite cookies/bars/brownies for post-race refreshments and you'll be entered into a raffle for coveted BKVR apparel! Raffle #2: Bring shoes, sneakers, sandals and snowshoes in all sizes and condition and you'll be entered in a drawing for a 2012 Battenkill Canoe day pass valued at $70.00.
